1 cup black lentils (urad
dal)
4 cups water
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon turmeric
powder
1 onion, chopped

1 teaspoon cumin seeds
1 teaspoon ginger paste
1 teaspoon garlic paste
2 tablespoons ghee or
vegetable oil
1/4 cup cream (optional)

Instructions:
Rinse the black lentils
(urad dal) under cold water until the water runs clear. Soak them in water for
at least 2 hours or overnight.
